2018 – 2019

Ashini Dissanayake

AshiniPicAshini is a third year Biochemistry student who is passionate about empowering women and excited to be a part of the UBC Women in Science executive team for a second year. She enjoys research and has spent many summers in the lab working in a variety of fields (neuroscience, spinal cord injury, immunology/pathology). She also volunteers with harm reduction initiatives at community health centres in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and works as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor for the City of Richmond. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking, skiing, swimming, and hopes to someday travel the world!


Mannkiran Pandher

meMannkiran is a third-year student at UBC. She is interested in studying cell biology, biochemistry and microbiology. She is coming back for a second term as an executive member of WiS. She is excited to work this year’s team to provide new and returning members with an amazing experience with WiS. Outside of academics, she enjoys painting, volunteering in her community, scrapbooking, and gardening.


Petra Catsi
Vice President Mentorship

PetraPicPetra is a 4th year biology student at UBC with a passion for science and women’s empowerment. After spending a year on the WiS events subcommittee, she is very excited to continue working with the club as a member of the executive team for the 2018-19 school year. She hopes to have a positive impact on the UBC science community through her involvement in the mentorship program. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, trying new food, painting, and hiking!


Marley Leacock 
Vice President Administration

MarleyPicMarley is a third year UBC student who is majoring in Astronomy.  After participating in the Meet a Mentor event hosted by the UBC Women in Science club last year, as well as a networking event hosted by SCWIST (Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology), Marley realized how passionate she was in regards to women helping women achieve their academic goals. This lead her to pursue an executive position with  UBC Women in Science. This is her first year on the executive team, and she is very excited to be involved in the clubs activities this coming year. In her free time, Marley enjoys reading and going on long bike rides.


Jeanette Johnson
Vice President Internal

JeanettePicJeanette is in her 3rd year at UBC, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Immunology. She has a passion for advocacy for women in her field, and is very excited to be starting her 3rd years on the UBC WiS executive team. Jeanette has spend the past 12 months working for Cisco/OpenDNS as a co-op student where she has learned a lot about network security and how to code to industry standards. In her spare time she loves to draw cartoons, attend concerts, and watch baking competition shows.

Lauren Eggenberger
Vice President Events

LaurenPicLauren Eggenberger is a third year student in Honors Biology. This is also her third year with the UBC Women in Science Club and her second year as the vice-president of events. Lauren became involved in Women in Science as she is passionate about supporting her fellow female students in science. She hopes to increase female participation in research as she volunteered in a diabetic research lab this past year and found it very rewarding. Born and raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, she has a love for exploring the outdoors. She is also a member and an executive of the UBC Cycling Team. Besides biking, Lauren loves to travel, and eat tacos.
